Prices of rice goes up in the Philippines followed by bread

After rice, prices of bread are expected to increase too, with some small bakeries already implementing the increase by as much as P5. Some small bakeries in Sta. Rosa town had already jacked up the price of loaf bread from P35 to P40 Saturday. The owners of the small bakeries attributed this to the high price of wheat, a prime ingredient in bread-making, in the market. A group of bakery owners, however, said they are yet to increase the price of their bread, but said such is inevitable if the price of wheat continues to rise. At present, a sack of wheat costs from P920 to P940. The baking industry will be left with no choice but to put a 5 percent increase in the price of their products once the price of a sack of wheat reaches P980.If this pushes through, there will be a P2.50 increase in the price of bread loaf, and P0.25 in pandesal, which is a common Filipino breakfast.
