Trade Department to halt plans to revise Executive Order 156, which bans the entry of used motor vehicles

There are a lot of used vehicles in the country for sale and it hits the market a lot compared to the brand new one because of its cheaper prices. Used vehicle that are most coming from Japan is converted to Left hand drive vehicle and made for sale to the public. Importation increases because ther are a lot of businessmen who ventured in this kind of business that gives them more profit margin than the new one but the importers encountered a big problem regarding the vehicles importation because of banning the importation of second-hand vehicles.

The government should not push through with plans to repeal or amend the executive order that bans the importation of second-hand vehicles, since such a move will weaken the local automotive industry and may result in retrenchments, a civil society group said Thursday. The Fair Trade Alliance, or FairTrade, a coalition of civil groups concerned with trade reforms, called for the Trade Department to halt plans to revise Executive Order 156, which bans the entry of used motor vehicles through the country’s ports.

  1. Greetings Noel!

This is Duane, blogger of FairTradeWeb. I would like to commend you for your post regarding our campaign on questioning DTI from amending EO156.

I'd also like to inform you that it seems that DTI is now backpedaling from their earlier pronouncement that they will amend EO 156. Yey.

Kudos and more power to your blogsite. Hope to hear from you again.

    Maraming maraming salamat po!
